The 2016 Jaguar football team was celebrated last night at the annual LBJ Football Banquet. Players, coaches, and their families were treated to dinner, enjoyed highlights of the 9-2 season, and recognized our student-athletes.
Principal Sheila Henry and Head Coach Andrew Jackson opened the night with messages on accountability and “buying in.”
Attendees were privileged to hear from an outstanding group of guest speakers who exemplify “buy in.” First, former Jag, Lee Anthony Dawson gave words of wisdom on playing at the next level. Dawson, a 2014 graduate of LBJ, is currently a starting cornerback at West Texas A&M.
Dawson was followed by a duo of active NFL players who were coached by Coach Jackson during his time at Lancaster High School. Jalen Mills, who played in all 16 games as a rookie for the Philadelphia Eagles this year, talked about the adversity he faced from high school to LSU to now the NFL.
Mills was followed by Demontre Hurst of the Chicago Bears. Hurst, a graduate of Oklahoma and a four-year NFL veteran, spoke about the importance of having passion and a plan for everything you do.
The highlight of the evening was when the players took the stage in acknowledgement of their participation, excellence in the classroom, and achievement on the field. With a district championship, two All-State Selections, three All-Centex selections, 14 All-District selections, and 18 Academic All-District selections, it was a season to remember!
Thank you to the LBJ Football Booster Club for hosting an outstanding event that embodied an outstanding season.
